Built in June of 2010 by King County employees using salvaged and donated materials, the Goat Hill Giving Garden is an oasis in downtown Seattle.
This demonstration garden teaches people about organic gardening with free gardening classes, hands on training and seminars from Seattle Tilth and the Master Gardeners program.
All the produce is donated to the Pike Market Senior Center and Downtown Food Bank. Last year over 250 pounds of fresh, healthy vegetables and fruit were donated.
On a sunny day people often bring their lunch and picnic amongst the pea vines, flowering chives and neat raised beds. There are several bee hives on top of the former bus shelter turned kiosk but they are too busy to bother anyone.
To learn more visit the web site or better yet, stop by the corner of Jefferson Street and 5th Avenue and see it in person.
I'd love to hear from you!
