A lush garden at Fort Ticonderoga? Yes! With a fort for my husband and a perennial and veggie garden for me; we had to stop for a quick visit.
This large 18th century fort located in upstate New York controlled a water passage between Lake George and Lake Champlain and was built by the French during the French Indian wars. The word “Ticonderoga” is an Iroquois word meaning junction of two waterways.
It also played a role in the Revolutionary War passing back and forth between the Americans and the British.
After 1781 it fell into disrepair and locals came and took stones to build walls and houses.
The Pell family purchased the site and in 1909 restored it and opened it as a tourist attraction. Sarah Pell restored the perennial and vegetable plantings and it’s now known as the King’s Garden.
I'd love to hear from you!
